Join the Emergency Department team at this leading academic children's hospital in Texas as the Clinical Nurse Specialist in their Level I Trauma Center. The Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Emergency Department of this 490 bed children's hospital is an expert clinician, consultant, educator, and researcher in emergency medicine. They provide clinical leadership and direction for the multi-disciplinary team as they monitor delivery of care in the ED for critically ill pediatric patients who come to them for emergency care and treatment of a sudden illness or injury. This is a full time, days position.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Emergency Job:
Provide direct clinical care for pediatric emergency patients
Obtain patient histories and perform physical examinations
Order, perform, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests and procedures
Order and prescribe medications, treatments, and procedures
Initiate and follow-up on appropriate referrals and consults
Consult with healthcare teams, patients, and families to create, implement, monitor, and modify plans of care based on patient response
Provides support and education for patients and families
Participate in formal and informal programs to meet the identified educational needs of ED staff
Actively participates in research projects and maintains knowledge of current research findings relating to evidence-based practice for the healthcare of patients and families
Collaborate with the ED leadership team in the process and patient flow re-design project

Qualifications

Qualifications for the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Emergency Job:
Current RN and APRN licensures in the State of Texas, with recognition as a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist on the APRN license
Current national certification as a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist by a national certifying body recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing. PLEASE NOTE: Current Nurse Practitioner candidates must be willing to obtain their Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) license and certification
Current BLS certification
Current PALS certification or within 180 days of hire

Education Requirements

Education Requirements for the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Emergency Job:
Master's (MSN) or Doctorate degree (DNP or PhD) in Nursing
