This is a great new job opportunity for the Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner to assume leadership and management responsibilities in the Pediatric Intensive Care and Cardiac Intensive Care Units of this leading academic children's hospital in Iowa. The Acute Care PNP Supervisor in this role is a clinical expert and resource who is responsible for overseeing and leading the PICU/CICU teams that provide care for children from birth to young adulthood who are critically ill or injured, or recovering from surgery. These patients require the full range of pediatric therapies and treatments in critical care, including constant monitoring and around the clock observation by the PICU/CICU teams. With primary focus in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, the Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Supervisor in this role performs patient care in addition to their responsibilities for supervisory and administrative functions, human resource functions, clinical evaluation, and advocacy, education and professional development of the NP team. This is a regular, salaried, full time position that includes a generous compensation and benefits package.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the AC PNP Supervisor in the PICU/CICU Job:
Oversee, supervise, direct, and facilitate patient care delivered by the Nurse Practitioner team in the PICU/CICU
Provide patient care including histories, physical examinations, ordering, performing and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests and procedures, plans of care, and prescribing therapeutic measures and medications
Accurately document patient care in EMR and other records for compliance, billing, and other regulatory standards
Facilitate regular staff meetings
Hire, develop and manage staff performance, providing feedback and coaching to assure quality of care
Partner with PICU/CICU leadership to coordinate and implement unit-specific orientation, competency assessment, and mentoring for new NP staff
Collaborate with department leadership to identify metrics and monitor NP performance
Promote the growth and professional development of the NP staff in areas of leadership, clinical excellence, patient-centered care, education, research, and organizational involvement to meet the identified goals and needs of the employee and the organization
Ensure compliance with APP regulatory processes and practice evaluation relating to credentialing and privileging, internal standards, clinical protocols, compliance training, and external professional standards
Attend council meetings and other conferences to enhance your own clinical and professional expertise and development

Qualifications

Qualifications for the AC PNP Supervisor in the PICU/CICU Job:
Current RN and ARNP licensure in the State of Iowa by the date of hire
Current Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) Acute Care (AC) certification

Education Requirements

Education Requirements for the AC PNP Supervisor in the PICU/CICU Job:
Compliance with the Iowa Board of Nursing registration and licensure requirements including graduation from an accredited nursing educational program and certification by an accepted accrediting agency

Experience

Experience Requirements for the AC PNP Supervisor in the PICU/CICU Job:
Minimum of three (3) years of NP experience within a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Cardiac Step Down Unit (CSDU) or comparable intensive care unit
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment
Ability to successfully work within a multi-disciplinary team setting/environment
Demonstrated high degree of professionalism and positive interpersonal skills while modeling service excellence behaviors
Desirable qualifications include demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership experience within a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
