| Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care
90178 - Consider joining the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit team located at the suburban campus of this leading academic children's hospital. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in this PICU is experienced in providing comprehensive medical care for seriously ill or injured children who require special care and treatment for a variety of acute and chronic conditions. In consultation with and under the direct supervision of the critical care attending physician, the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in this PICU assesses, evaluates, plans and implements comprehensive medical or surgical care for children who have been injured, undergone surgery or are undergoing special diagnostic procedures. This critical care unit has a strong teamwork approach with lots of autonomy for the APPs.
Obtain patient histories
Perform physical examinations and other procedures
Collect and document data
Order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures
Develop, monitor and revise plans of care
Provide education and support for patients and families regarding diagnosis, ongoing care and prescribed medical treatments and medications
Collaborate and consult with physicians and other healthcare providers
Be a member of the Rapid Response Team
Current RN license (or eligible) in the State of Texas, required
Advanced nurse practitioner license in the State of Texas, required
Current PALS certification, required
Acute care pediatric nurse practitioner certification, required
Two years of recent PNP PICU experience, required
Additional responsibilities of this PNP include initiating and changing orders for tests and patient care based on the condition of the patient, and identifying and documenting changes or abnormal findings in the condition of patients using appropriate problem solving skills and experience. With a solid knowledge and understanding of adult learning principles, the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is an educational resource for other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, patients and their families.
